According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, one in five people suffer from damage to the nervous system, and there are more than 600 neurological diseases. Considering the fact that scientists have a long way to go before they fully understand how the brain works, it’s useful to know that homeopathy is a reliable resource for treatment.
In this course, John Millar, ND, DHANP, CCH, HD, explores homeopathic materia medica as it applies to the assessment and treatment of neurological conditions. Everything from acute traumatic events to more chronic/miasmatic states will be examined, including:
- Concussion
- Brain injury
- Apoplexy (stroke)
- Bell’s palsy
- Trigeminal neuralgia
- Dyskinesia
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig disease)
This course is designed to provide each student with basic clinical diagnostic skills so that you will be able to correctly assess treatment progression. Additional goals are to enhance knowledge of several etiological factors that can facilitate positive outcomes, and to teach the materia medica used in neurological conditions. Remedies will be reviewed from a homotoxicologic and tissue-affinity perspective, and students will come away from the course with a better understanding of the remedies and therapeutic considerations involved in the successful treatment of a variety of neurological states.
Remedies that will be discussed during this course include:
The Loganaceae - Nux vomica, Ignatia, Spigelia, Gelsemium
The Kalis and related remedies - Causticum, Kali phosphoricum, Kali carbonicum, Kali iodatum, Kali muriaticum,
Magnesium phosphoricum, Colocynthis, Hypericum, Syphilinum, Lyssinum
Toxic metals - Plumbum, Mercurius, Aluminum, Zincum, Cuprum
Serpents - Lachesis, Crotalus horridus, Naja
Arachnidae - Androctonus, Tarentula
Others including Natrum muriaticum, Phosphoricum, Natrum phoshoricum, Silica, Opium, Botulinum, Agaricus, Aspartame,
Argentum metallic, Argentum nitricum, Hyoscamus, Conium maculatum, Curare
and many more.
Throughout the course, case examples will reinforce specific lesson points. Students will see that many of these conditions are “curable“ and some are not. The ability to determine if a case is either curable or in need of palliation will be discussed throughout the course. Much can be learned from the cured cases, but the incurable ones (some generated by mistakes in management) create an excellent tool for learning as well.
Dr. Millar has practiced homeopathy for more than 30 years. He has taught extensively, including 12 years as a clinical supervisor at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. He has also worked and taught for Homeopaths Without Borders in Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. Along the way, he has developed many “rules of thumb” that he is happy to share with his students.
