Hormones Unhinged: The Homeopathic Treatment of Endocrine Disorders

If the neurological system is like the internet, the endocrine system is like snail mail. It’s not good for instantaneous communication, such as that needed to enervate a muscle, but it is designed to regulate hormones, and it steadily controls metabolic and vegetative functions over the life of an organism.

The endocrine system is a collection of glands that regulate bone and tissue growth, sexual function and fertility, metabolism, sleep, mood, and much more. If your endocrine system is unhealthy you might have problems developing normally in puberty, difficulty getting pregnant, or an inability to manage stress. You might lack energy due to a sugar imbalance, be depressed, or be either too thin or overweight.

Treatment of endocrine disease isn’t as easy as it used to be. Our polluted environment makes endocrine health more and more difficult to maintain. Our world is contaminated with synthetic chemicals and toxins (xenobiotics) that mimic our hormones, interfere with their normal functioning, and infiltrate our tissues in excessive concentrations. The modern-day homeopath must be able to recognize such complicating factors since their impact makes a difference in the selection of a remedy and in the overall treatment of the case.

During this course, Dr. Millar will also teach students about Psycho-Neuro-Endocrine-Immunology (PNEI). The study of PNEI focuses on communication between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems, and the correlations this network has to physical and mental health. The Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis (HPA) — our central stress response system — will also be discussed. Knowledge gained about HPA is useful in understanding the role that stress plays in the lives of our clients. Restoring homeostasis to the HPA axis is critical to good health.

This course will give you a solid foundation on which to work with disorders of the endocrine system. You’ll come to know the detailed differences between the Hypothalamus, the Thymus, the Pineal, the Pituitary as well as the other glands in the endocrine system. Just as the correct remedy allows a poorly developing teenager to catch up to his peers, this information will spur your homeopathic practice on to greater success.
